yahoo mail is dog s***t sadly I still use it and its soo slow to update and quite erratic even on my fast iphone X. Sometimes the entire yahoo inbox disappears and then it starts to download the full inbox again. I know its a yahoo mail issue, and not the iphone, because all my other inboxes (outlook, Hotmail) work perfectly on iphone.
